What is total surrender? 8

A moment of confession…

Many of you know some of our challenges since moving to Honduras. Further, some of you know some of my personal aggravation as of late, feeling like, despite pouring my heart out to God, asking for Him to make Himself known to me in specific ways in regards to specific circumstances, I was feeling empty.

Well, God has answered. No, not in the way I wanted or expected, but I feel like, through Billy Graham’s daily devotion for today (http://www.billygraham.org/dailydevotion.asp?ArticleID=7388), God opened my eyes to the reality that I have YET to totally surrender.

I must admit it’s easy to THINK you’ve surrendered when you sell all your possessions, succumb to a massive amount of undesired debt, and move your family to a foreign country…all in the spirit of “serving others”. More accurately, it’s easy to be ARROGANT about such things.

Well, through today’s wise words from Billy, God assured me I haven’t done SQUAT! It is God and God ALONE that has done EVERYTHING.

A few things I have yet to get through my thick skull…

…absolute dependence ON my Savior.
…absolute yieldedness TO my Savior.
…TOTAL surrender of MY WILL.
…all my goodness is as filthy rags.
…my stubborn will has destructive power.

Dear God – Please have mercy on me for my arrogance and lack of surrender. Thank you for the power of answered prayer. Please SHOW ME THE WAY…

It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others. –Ephesians 2:10 (TLB)

Just a word here from your “thick skulled” sister… God tends to strip us of the things that would prevent us from depending on Him- pride, resource, self confidence …and once we find ourselves totally dependent on Him , we are then truly useful. I wish I could learn this lesson only once. But I seem to repeat it over and over. I am praying for you as a kindred spirit.

I sure hope I’m nearing usefulness, cause I’m pretty sure there’s not a whole lot more stripping I can’t handle much more stripping.
No, it’s not near as bad as it seems, but I am truly down on my knees.
Thanks for the encouragement AND, above all else, for the prayer support, “thick skulled” sister! 😉

Started to skip it because i would know it like a Jesus movie and grab and let go… In my life are a few friends besides my Brother John will say sometimes a few words and linger ’till more long that i want it too. Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. Sometimes it feels like not sharpens iron but cleaving from the bone…

Why is everything i read, hear, etc, hits me like i never let in deep enough to do the job? Maybe it’s me. i know i went this stuff already, why it is hitting so hard…

The Church has us reading “Life with Attitude” {Daily Devotions on the Secrets of Teamwork} by Harold B. Bullock. Just went one day and talking about hitting to between the eyes, all about the attitudes of my heart. One day and i gets it that its resides in my heart, negative, pride, arrogant, haughty… Stuff i already dealt with years ago, guess not enough. Last verse in day one is Ecclesiastes 6:2, looks like life sucks and then you die, damn if you do and damn if you don’t. God and Fate will happen and it is not our choice. Loving the next day already…

The other book started, that should have started months ago because it is from my bud Jim. “God Wants You Well” Andrew Wommack. Quote: We live in a day and age where the message of salvation has been corrupted and divided into parts. Certian aspects are neglected and misunderstood by most of the body of Christ. Many people are preaching only the forgiveness of sin. God confirms all of His Word that we preach, but if we preach on is spiritual, eternal values, and the forgiveness of sins, then allwe’ll see happen is people being born again. But if we preach and teach the whole counsel of God, He will confirm it with signs, wonders, and miracles. This is the way God has established it in the scriptures, and this is the way it should be.

    Need a break…
